The Feature
The 803 cc air-cooled Desmodromic L-twin. Two cylinders set 90 degrees apart. Two valves per cylinder, each opened and closed by a cam. No coolant.

Why Ducati Built It
Desmodromic means no valve springs. One lobe opens each valve, another closes it, so the valve follows the cam at any rpm. The 90-degree layout balances itself. No balance shaft. Air cooling: fins, no coolant. Ducati builds the Scrambler around it because the job is city and back roads.

What You Feel
Wet light on the Kits-to-downtown run, 3,000 rpm, and it pulls without a downshift. This engine lives in the mid-range: torque builds to 65.2 Nm at 7,000 rpm, and the stretch below is where your week happens. Offbeat idle at the light: that's the 90-degree twin.

Close
Read about Desmodromic valves, or stand next to one at idle.
The Scrambler Icon Dark is at High Road Langley and Vancouver. Ask us to start it. Two valves per cylinder, no springs, no coolant. You'll hear it standing still. Pinned link for the rest.

Caption

No coolant, no valve springs, two cylinders at 90 degrees. The Scrambler's 803 cc air-cooled Desmodromic L-twin is the part of the bike you can see working, and the part you feel from 3,000 rpm on the way out of every wet light between Kits and downtown. 73 hp at 8,250 rpm, 65.2 Nm at 7,000 rpm. Come hear it at idle at High Road Langley or High Road Vancouver. Full details on the pinned link.
